As web companies strive to tailor their services (including news and search results) to our personal tastes, there’s a dangerous unintended consequence: We get trapped in a “filter bubble” and don’t get exposed to information that could challenge or broaden our worldview. Eli Pariser argues powerfully that this will ultimately prove to be bad for us and bad for democracy.
Eventually, governments are going to have to regulate these companies since, as we know, power corrupts absolutely. We see the effects of this today as Google has sided with the anarchists and fascist who are trying to destroy the American way of life. Why they would do this is beyond me. However, they are doing it. I think this year will be the year that causes authorities to finally take action.
